Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from your hotel in Puerto Montt\Puerto Varas or from the Puerto Montt airport to the office in Cochamo. Diner & night in the Cochamo village.

Day 2: We leave Cochamo by vehicle in the morning. During the picnic along the shores of the lake Tagua-Tagua, we will explain the details of the trip and you will be able to meet your travell companion: one of our Chilean horses. After crossing the lake by boat and arriving at our first (and last!) one stop shop, we will saddle up for the journey. We will be riding for a few hours in the middle of the pampas before arriving at the Steffen camping (hot showers available). We will have diner around the campfire and spend the night in a tent.

Day 3: We head in the direction of Torrentoso. After reaching our destination, we will meet real huasos (Chilean cowboys) and we will set up our new base camp beside a stream of crystal clear water. A small hike will guide us to some ancient rock paintings that very few people have had the privilege to see. We will have diner around the campfire and spend the night in a tent.

Day 4: An 11 km ride through the mountains will lead us to Lake Vidal . Upon arrival, we will be welcomed by Carloncho, Margarita and their children . They will prepare and share with us a typical Chilean dinner. We will set our camp on the lake side . The lake is full with trout by the way…. Calling all enthusiasts!!

Day 5: This is a day of rest for the horses  for the riders. We will have the occasion to get to know farm life in an area that is so secluded (milk cows, gather hay, a refreshing swim in the lake)…. and to take advantage of the amazing sight that Lago Vidal offers us. We will have diner around the campfire and spend the night in a tent.

Day 6: The road slowly becomes steeper and will take us right through the Cordillera, under a dense forest. We will have breakfast at the Lago Grande (Big Lake) and continue till we reach  the El Arco Shelter where we will find trees over 3000 yrs old. El Arco derived its name from a naturally formed arc of rocks that towers over a waterfall. We will have diner around the campfire and spend the night in a tent.

Day 7: We will head in the direction of La Junta, soaking in breathtaking views of the Valdivian rainforest and observing the diversity of Mother Nature. After a hearty 4 hour ride to the shelter, a nice hot shower & siesta awaits us. Later on, we will meet Daniel and Silvina, owners of the shelter, rock climbers and absolutely in love with this little corner of paradise. Diner and night in the shelter.

Day 8: This day is dedicated to rest and the discovery of La Junta. In the afternoon our guide will accompany us to the waterfalls-waterslide or to a small beach at the Cochamo river. Diner and night in the shelter.

Day 9: After a nice relaxing breakfast, we will have time to take advantage of La Junta just a bit longer. Once back on the saddle and inside the virgin forest, you will no doubt notice the hummingbirds or the “chucaos” (a native Chilean bird). A vehicle will be waiting for us at the end of the forest trail and to take us to the Inn in Cochamó. On the menu for the farewell meal: spit roasted BBQ, salad, potatoes, dessert and wine. Night in Cochamó.

Day 10: After breakfast, a vehicle will take us to Puerto Varas or Puerto Montt. However, if you wish, staying a bit longer and doing other activities is also amongst the possibilities.
